Upon joining the educational ranks in 2002 after graduating from the University of Oregon with a Masters in Secondary English Education, my teaching career has since offered experiences at the middle and high school levels. Having had the opportunity to teach both language arts as well as social sciences classes, I have taught dual subjects every year of my teaching tenure. From the shores of Lake Tahoe to the metropolis of Portland and most recently, eight years at Pendleton High School where I was tapped in 2011 to pioneer the first AP Language & Composition class offering at the school, it is with great exhilaration that I moved to Bend with my two spaniels (Norman is pictured) to teach at Summit High School.
I feel fortunate to call Wallowa County my childhood home; consequently, when asked why I chose to call Bend home, I quickly note the similarities in outdoor accessibility and appreciation for a small town community to what I grew accustomed to growing up (albeit Wallowa County’s population is a mere 7,000, but truly, the similarities far outweigh the differences).
However, my passion for the written word and the world is not contained within my classroom. Since 2009 I have been the founder and sole editor of an internationally recognized lifestyle blog The Simply Luxurious Life, podcast The Simple Sophisticate and book. A self-professed Francophile, my love for all things French began when I studied abroad in Angers in 2000. Since then, I have returned to France multiple times and continue to integrate the values of quality over quantity, appreciation for arts, culture and cuisine into my everyday life.
As an educator and a published author, thankfully the learning never ends so long as we forever remain curious. I continue to learn, grow, make mistakes, apply the lessons and harbor a sincere curiosity for the world we live in. I encourage you to view my teaching philosophy, and thank YOU for your very own curiosity which prompted your visit.
